A Letter From The Doc
Hello, come in and take a seat. My name is Dr Tyler Lemco and I’ll be your guide through the wild waters of creativity. What are my medical credentials? Well, I purchased a doctorate off of a website for $35. Oh, and one time on Twitter (back when it was called that), Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson referred to me as “Doc”, so…
You can expect three main themes from “The Doc Is In” newsletter:
Firstly, I’m an artist documenting my journey of self-discovery and understanding boundless expression, and who’s developing an artistic voice and constructing a body of work. That, in and of itself, is bonkers. If you’d have read that sentence to a 14-year-old me, he’d be all like “Shut up, you’re talking over Malcolm in the Middle”. I feel a constant excitement about the things I will create in my lifetime, and I’m stoked to share these ideas as they appear to me and as they take shape and become reality.
Make no mistake - I am not a teacher. At best, I am a curious researcher, and at worst, a buffoon. There are, however, certain areas in which I excel, and where I believe I can offer value: I’m an expert at having fun, feeling good, helping others, and making dope shit. If I’m able to successfully share my expertise in those fields, we’ll be in good shape. Which brings me to…
Secondly, after a decade and a half of being a “Creative For Hire”, contributing to other people's visions, I find myself a newborn entrepreneur, so to speak, and want to document this journey as well. I’m finally building something that provides value to people, and that actually resonates with me, and I’m hoping it’ll resonate with you.
I’m amped about cannonballing into the “make it happen for yourself” pool. As someone who’s always been paid in exchange for work, I’m enjoying the trial-and-error process of figuring out what the heck I’m even doing and how to do it. I try something, it either works or it doesn’t work, and then I proceed by using those results as informed data. What’s really cool is that, more often than not, knowing whether or not something “worked” is simply a feeling, and I’m getting better and better at tapping into and understanding that feeling.
I’ve been working on this project for almost one full year, including multiple course changes and impromptu makeovers (from an interview series to livestream prompts to art theory lessons), and only now is it starting to feel like there’s a clear direction. I suppose that’s how it works. Every failure is a stepping stone, and everything that comes next is attached to what came before. This is a creative movement, and I have plans to grow it into a tidal wave. If you’re reading this, you’re getting in at the very beginning. I hope you follow along and watch it grow. We’re riding the wave, baby!
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, this isn’t even about me - it’s about you! I plan on providing you, my readers, with as much value as I possibly can in the realm of creativity and imagination. I will push boundaries and attempt experiments while sharing my insights, findings, and best practices for you to take and implement yourselves. We’ll do some exercises and learn about different techniques and practices, all with the goal of expanding and strengthening our creative abilities.
My mission is to help you engage with your own creative practice by facilitating a relaxed environment, by offering the space and structure to let loose and allow yourself to play freely, and by removing any blockages that could limit or hinder your self discovery or self expression. I’ll cook the meal and set the table, you just have to sit down and eat.
So, there you have it - I’m building! I’m building a skill set, a body of work, a brand, a business, a creative movement… This newsletter is just the tip of the iceberg. I’ll be posting videos to YouTube and clips to social media, I’m working on some virtual AND in-person creative events & workshops, I’m writing a lot (not sure yet if it’s a book, or something else), and I’m constantly developing new creative experiments and exercises to test out. Stay tuned for exciting updates!
Consider these newsletters your prescriptions from the Doc. Now, take your medicine and call me in the morning. Good.
